Near - Infrared Observations of RR Lyrae variables in Galactic Globular Clusters : I . The case of M 92

چکیده
We present near-infrared J,H, and K-band time series observations of the Galactic Globular Cluster (GGC) M92. On the basis of these data, we derived well-sampled light curves for eleven out of the seventeen cluster RR Lyrae variables , and in turn, accurate mean near-infrared (NIR) magnitudes. The comparison between predicted and empirical slopes of NIR Period-Luminosity (PL) relations indicates a very good agreement. Cluster distance determinations based on independent theoretical NIR P L relations present uncertainties smaller than 5% and agree quite well with recent distance estimates based on different distance indicators. We also obtained accurate and deep NIR color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) ranging from the tip of the Red Giant Branch (RGB) down to the Main Sequence Turn-Off. We detected the RGB bump and the NIR luminosities of this evolutionary feature are, within theoretical and empirical uncertainties, in good agreement with each other. – 2 – Subject headings: globular clusters: individual NGC 6341 – stars: evolution – stars: variables

A ug 2 00 9 An Oosterhoff Analysis of the Galactic Bulge Field RR Lyrae stars : Implications On Their Absolute Magnitudes
We present an analysis of the period-V -amplitude plane for RR0 Lyrae stars (fundamental mode pulsators) with “normal” light curves in the bulge using the MACHO bulge fields. Although bulge globular clusters have RR Lyraes that divide into two reasonable distinct groups according to the average period of the RR0 Lyraes (Oosterhoff 1939), there is no evidence of a gap between Oosterhoff I and II...
متن کاملLyrae stars in four globular clusters in the Fornax dwarf galaxy
We have surveyed four of the globular clusters in the Fornax dwarf galaxy (clusters 1, 2, 3, and 5) for RR Lyrae stars, using archival F555W and F814W Hubble Space Telescope observations. We identify 197 new RR Lyrae stars in these four clusters, and 13 additional candidate horizontal branch variable stars. Although somewhat restricted by our short observational baseline, we derive periods and ...
متن کاملRR Lyrae Stars in NGC 6388 and NGC 6441: A New Oosterhoff Group?
NGC 6388 and NGC 6441 are anomalies among Galactic globular clusters in that they cannot be readily placed into either Oosterhoff group I or Oosterhoff group II despite their significant numbers of RR Lyrae variables. The mean pulsation periods, &angl0;Pab&angr0;, of their RRab variables, at 0.71 and 0.76 days, respectively, are even larger than for Oosterhoff II clusters. Moreover, Oosterhoff ...
متن کاملCcd Observations of the Rr Lyrae Variables in the Globular Cluster Ngc 5897
CCD observations for 10 (6 previously known and 4 newly discovered) of the 11 RR Lyrae variables in NGC 5897 have been analysed. The period-luminosity and period-amplitude plots indicate that the population of RR Lyrae variables in NGC 5897 includes 3 fundamental mode, 4 first-overtone and 4 second-overtone variables with mean periods 0.828, 0.459 and 0.343 respectively. The variables have prop...
متن کاملNew Ccd Observations of the Rr Lyrae Variables in the Oosterhoff Type Ii Cluster M9
CCD observations have been used to study sixteen of the previously known variables in the Oosterhoo type II globular cluster M9. The properties of the RR Lyrae variables in M9 are compared with those in the Oosterhoo type I cluster M3. Methods devised by Simon, Jurcsik and Kovv acs have been used to derive physical parameters for the stars from Fourier analysis. The mean metal abundance so deri...
